As Friday evening approached, the participants started arriving. Although the official assembly time was not until 7:00PM, the sound of participants doing campsite improvements could be heard much earlier that that. Finally 7:00PM arrived and the troop assembled at the flags in front of Gilwell Hall, to start the second weekend of fun. Everyone was there except for a couple of latecomers, and our Assistant Scoutmaster of Physical Arrangements. His injured leg had gotten worse and the Doctors had strongly recommended he not attend this weekend. Although he could not be there in person, he was there in spirit. We had a couple of well presented sessions on Friday night, then it was off to bed, for almost everyone, except the Eagle Patrol. For some reason they want to stay up all night. On Saturday morning, after a very good breakfast, everyone was ready to start the day. We had some skills development during the morning, including a well presented session on ropework. After lunch, I bet some of the participants wished they had spent more time learning this ropework, or at least practicing their lashings. During the afternoon, everyone had a chance to demonstrate how well they had learned the lashing skills during the morning session. The entire troop built catapults and spent some fun time hurling water balloons at each other, and the staff. Later that evening after more skills sessions, including session on resources for Hiking and camping, lead by Tom Carr and Caren Gibson. Later that night after very concise staff meeting, we were off to bed. Sunday morning was another beautiful day. The program patrol lead us in a devotional service, in Gilwell Shelter. Then it was back to learning sessions. During the day, our Quartermaster took photos of each patrol as well as the entire troop. After a long hard day everyone was ready to leave for home around 5:30PM. The Coach Counselor for the Bobwhite Patrol, Rick Brennamen, took some great digital photos during the second weekend. These are available on the photos page. Go to the SR-216 page and at the bottom of the page, enter the name of the Staff Patrol. This will allow you to go to another set of "Private Pages". One of these is the photos page. |
